Back to Blog Neighborhoods Roofing in Leon Valley: Big Quality for a Small City
Mark WhiteMay 22, 20254 min read Leon Valley is one of those hidden gems, a small independent city nestled inside San Antonio with its own city hall, police department, and building codes. For roofing, that last one matters.
Like Alamo Heights, Leon Valley handles its own permitting separate from San Antonio's Development Services Department. Pulling the wrong permit for a Leon Valley address creates delays and headaches.
The Permit Difference
Leon Valley's building department is smaller and more responsive than San Antonio's. Permits are typically issued quickly, and inspections are straightforward. But you need to pull the permit from the right jurisdiction. Leon Valley City Hall, not San Antonio.
At Legacy, we handle all permitting for our customers. We know which addresses fall in Leon Valley's jurisdiction versus San Antonio's (it's not always obvious near the boundaries).

Leon Valley's housing was primarily built in the 1960s-1980s, which means many homes have had 2-3 roof replacements already. Some have multiple layers, old roofing installed over older roofing. Building code allows a maximum of two layers, and we always recommend tear-off to a single layer for proper inspection and performance.
If your Leon Valley home hasn't had a roof replacement since the 1990s or early 2000s, it's time for an assessment. Call Legacy at (210) 272-7272.
