Mark WhiteSeptember 30, 20254 min read October and November in San Antonio offer mild temperatures and lower humidity, ideal conditions for roof maintenance. After the intense summer storm season and before winter's occasional freezes, fall is your maintenance window.
The Fall Maintenance Checklist
Complete these tasks every fall:
- Clean gutters and downspouts, summer storms have deposited debris all season
- Clear debris from the roof surface, especially in valleys and behind chimneys
- Inspect for storm damage from the summer season (don't wait until spring)
- Check pipe boot collars for cracking from summer UV exposure
- Verify ridge vent and soffit vents are clear and functional
- Trim any branches that have grown to within 6 feet of the roof
- Check attic ventilation, ensure nothing is blocking airflow before winter
- Inspect flashing around chimneys and walls for separation or deterioration
- Look for any shingles that have lifted, curled, or lost significant granules

Learn About Roof Certifications →Why Fall Matters in San Antonio
While we don't get harsh winters, San Antonio does get occasional ice events (remember February 2021). A roof that's compromised going into winter has no margin for error when ice forms, and ice exploits every weakness in your roofing system.
Fall maintenance is also cheaper and faster, contractors have more availability between the summer storm rush and the spring storm season.
