Back to Blog Repairs Fascia and Soffit Repair in San Antonio: What They Do and When They Fail
Mark WhiteDecember 22, 20254 min read Most homeowners couldn't point to their fascia or soffit if you asked. But these components play critical roles: fascia supports your gutter installation and seals the edge of the roof, while soffit provides ventilation and keeps pests out of your attic. When either fails, cascading problems follow.
Signs of Fascia Problems
Peeling paint or water stains on fascia boards, gutters pulling away from the roofline, visible rot or soft spots (push test, if your finger sinks in, it's rotten), and small animals or insects entering the attic at the roofline.
Fascia damage is usually caused by: missing or inadequate drip edge, overflowing or misaligned gutters, ice-and-water shield not extended to the edge, or simply age and sun exposure on wood fascia.
Signs of Soffit Problems
Peeling or flaking soffit panels, visible holes or gaps, pest evidence (droppings, nesting material), moisture stains, or reduced attic ventilation (your attic feels hotter than it should).
Damaged soffit compromises your attic ventilation system, remember, soffit vents are the intake side of the ventilation equation. Blocked or damaged soffits mean insufficient airflow, leading to hotter attics and shorter shingle life.
